Roz Savage and the Cotswold Liberal Democrats are calling for a 16% sewage tax on the profits of water companies to help clean up our rivers.
Last year, UK water companies pumped sewage into our rivers and lakes more than 400,000 times.
In 2021, The Cotswolds suffered 1,256 sewage dumps - over 12,970 hours of sewage dumping poisoining our beuatiful rivers and threatening wildlife, recreational river users and children playing.
The Conservatives are letting the water companies get away with it. The Cotswolds Conservative MP failed to vote to stop sewage being pumped into rivers and voted against a 'name and shame' policy for water companies that harm wildlife with sewage.
"The discharge of raw sewage into Cotswold rivers is disgusting. Fairford has yet again seen 1,000 hours continuous ‘storm discharging’, while fat cat CEOs and foreign shareholders profit. Lib Dems are calling for a sewage tax on water company profits, and a ban on CEO bonuses. I've been been an active campaigner on water issues for 20 years, and will continue to demand action to stop the sewage scandal," says Roz Savage.
