Paul Hodgkinson and the Cotswold Liberal Democrats are calling for a 16% sewage tax on the profits of water companies to help clean up our rivers.
Last year, UK water companies pumped sewage into our rivers and lakes more than 400,000 times.
In 2021, The Cotswolds suffered 1,256 sewage dumps - over 12,970 hours of sewage dumping poisoining our beuatiful rivers and threatening wildlife, recreational river users and children playing.
The Conservatives are letting the water companies get away with it. The Cotswolds Conservative MP failed to vote to stop sewage being pumped into rivers and voted against a 'name and shame' policy for water companies that harm wildlife with sewage.
“It is disgraceful that companies like Thames Water are making huge profits while polluting our rivers. I’m demanding action to make them pay to clean up our waterways," said our spokesperson Paul Hodgkinson.
