Free school meals for 19000 children from today

An estimated 19,000 children across Gloucestershire will start receiving free school meals from today, thanks to the Lib Dems in Government.

Every five, six and seven year old in Gloucestershire is now receiving a free school meal everyday. This is one of the most important changes in our education system for a generation.

A hot, healthy meal at lunch time greatly improves the health, behaviour and results of schoolchildren, providing them with their best start in life, enabling every child to fulfil their potential.

Paul Hodgkinson, Parliamentary Candidate for the Cotswolds, said: "It is great to know that 18,992 five, six and seven year olds are having a decent meal at lunch time.

"By providing free school meals, we are saving parents over £400 a year, and I hope that we can soon expand this policy to every primary school pupil in Gloucestershire."
