The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
Liberal Democrats Constitution
The Cotswolds Liberal Democrats has been one of the most successful local parties in the country over the last decade. The parliamentary constituency covers a swathe of southern and eastern Gloucestershire including the whole of the Cotswold District and three wards from Stroud - Wotton-under-Edge, Kingswood and Minchinhampton.
In May 2019, we caused a major upset by taking control of Cotswold District Council for the first time, ending 16 years of Conservative rule. We now have 18 Councillors working in the Council to make housing more affordable, tackle the climate crisis and build a stronger, more sustainable local economy. We aim to retain control of Cotswold District Council in the May 2023 elections.
We are the largest opposition party on Gloucestershire County Council, which is currently run by the Conservatives. Of the 14 Liberal Democrats Councillors elected in 2021, five came from the Cotswolds. We aim to take control of this Council in 2025.
