'Free after 3' should be extended

Free parking after 3pm should be extended for another year in some of Cirencester’s Car Parks the Cotswold Liberal Democrats have said today.

The successful ‘free after three’ campaign was implemented last February in the Brewery and Forum Car Parks after a Liberal Democrat budget amendment in the authority’s budget meeting was agreed to. The scheme is due to expire in February 2017.

District Councillor Tatyan Cheung, who used to run ‘Tatyans’ Chinese restaurant in Cirencester said: “It was a welcome boost to the local economy when the ‘free after three’ campaign was implemented last February. I still speak to many local business owners have told me that they’ve noticed an upturn in trade since the scheme was introduced.

“It has also been very useful for residents in villages like South Cerney, Siddington and Kemble who want to pop into Cirencester for some shopping but have previously been put off by high charges. I hope that the Conservative administration will again listen to our calls and extend the scheme for another year.”
