Tree-mendous world record!12.34.24pm GMT Tue 8th Dec 2009
A world record attempt was made yesterday at the National Star College, Ullenwood. This was part of the 'Tree O' Clock' initiative which was happening all over the UK as part of National Tree Week. It was organised by the BBC and the aim was to break the world record for planting the most trees in an hour. The tree planters were joined by Dr Mark Horton, presenter of BBC TV's 'Coast' who lives in Gloucestershire. Cllr Paul Hodgkinson (Churn Valley) was one of two adjudicators and his role was to verify the total number of trees planted at the Star College. He told us, "100 people planted 2000 trees in less than an hour. It was amazing to see people do this for the environment on a windy, cold day and just brilliant that the Star College took the trouble to organise it. People had fun and felt they were doing something meaningful." Photo attached shows (left to right) adjudicators Rev John Holder and Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, TV's Dr Mark Horton.
